Fall time.

October 5, 2008

By now the most cliche’ thing to write in a blog is this:

“I haven’t written in here for a long time”.

So, I think I’ll dodge that. Everyone knows that the word “Blog” means Belated Life in an Organized Grandeur. Or something similar. So, If mine is a little belated as well, I should not feel the need to apologize. So………. Screw You. No. I’m only kidding.

I’ve been very busy lately! Robin and I have been organizing a release party for Blammo #2 at a local bookstore. I’ve been learning that getting any press for an underground comic book release is very difficult. We wrote a press release and everything! It’s going to happen on the 18th of October with 3 bands playing and then I’ll talk a little about myself and my comics. Which will be “fun” for me.

Also, the newest issue The Comics Journal will feature the first of my comic interviews with comic artists. I believe it’s issue #294. So all you people can go on down to your local comic book store or Barnes&Noble or whatever and pick one up.

Last night was a release party for the newest issue of Illiterate magazine and I stopped by there for about 20 minutes. It was a loud crowded scene and I had to escape. That kind of thing stresses me out. The newest issue of Illiterate included a comic I drew a year ago about my first date in it. What an embarrassing dude I was as a teenager (and kid).

Also, they invited me to hang some paintings up for this party. Here is a picture of me last night in front of my paintings:

I recently read a big collection of Hate comics called Buddy does seattle. Ethan knows what I’m talking about. It changed me. That book was the most entertaining thing I’d ever read! It was so funny and it made me wish that I was living in Seattle in the early 90′s.It was one of those things that makes you depressed when you get towards the end. I always disliked the 80′s and 90′s until recently. I’ve just started getting into whatever independent music was going on around those times. Anyway, So I finshed Buddy does Seattle and I went and found Buddy does Jersey which is the next collection, but it didn’t seem as good. I was disappointed by those comics. Especially the fact that the Hate creator Peter Bagge hired another artist to help him. It looses something without Peter’s inking touch. All the strange little cross-hatching lines that he gave to his earlier comics. It was all so great! But I guess that’s what happens. Hate became so popular that the demand for new issues to come out quicker  was too much for him alone to take on. So, i feel like the stories were hacked out a bit. Also, Robin’s dad was talking about how one of the biggest mistakes that televisions shows make is that they start out great and as soon as the show becomes really popular the writers start to take it too seriously and they over-develop the characters. They give some characters drug problems and then the other one gets pregnant and then she dies and so on and so on…. and then the show looses it’s charm. It’s not as light as it was. I think that applies with Hate comics as well. It got too stupid and by the end I didn’t care about Buddy anymore and I didn’t like Lisa at all!

So that’s my review of Hate comics!

    Noah!
When I finally get arround to publishing some of my work, I’m going to put you and Robin to work on the marketing. Looks like you’re getting good experience with your own stuff. I’ve never had the ambition, maybe because I was never starving and had a big hole in my wall like you. My gophers, George & Georgie, really love underground books, but they haven’t been able to find yours, no matter how hard they dig. I hope it works out for you.
    Pray for Kaiti.
    I love you.

Those two black and whites are AWESOME, Noah! I totally want them. I think they’d be good additions to any Halloween decor. Your life sounds so cozy and I love love love reading up on you and your progress.

    Love you!
